Hands-on Programs in New Jersey:

For students who are interested in learning more about a subject outside of school, there is a wealth of opportunities throughout the state. These can be as simple as a one-day nontraditional careers fair offered by local schools or businesses, or even summer residential programs that offer students an opportunity to receive in-depth training and exploration of a field. Research has shown that students who participate in these programs-particularly for nontraditional fields-do better in those subjects, and their retention rates are higher. Below are some examples in the state, with links to the programs themselves.

  • Princeton Plasma Phsyics Lab

Princeton Plasma Phsyics Lab in Princeton, NJ hosts a number of educational programs for high school students in the sciences and engineering. You can find our more about their offerings on their site.

    Douglass Science Career Exploration Day

The Douglass Science Career Exploration Day for young women in grades 11 and 12 will be held at Douglass College. Career exploration is a vital part of the education process that often doesn't get enough attention, therefore; this day will be a great opportunity for students to discover the many hidden careers in the areas of science, math, engineering and technology that they were not aware of. They will here from women in these fields and learn of the challenges and rewards of following a path that may not always be traditional for their gender. Your assistance is needed to get the word out and to encourage young women to be a part of this exciting event. Registration and more information can be accessed from their website.
